  • Target audience: High School Students.
  • Objectives: Learn basic first aid and CPR skills for application on children and adults. This includes those who work in an education and care setting (such as child care, OSHC, schools, sports clubs, etc). Learn about Health and Safety expectations in a workplace.
  • Timeframe: You will have 3 months to complete from the date of your first aid class.
  • Duration: First aid and CPR: 1 day class + approximately 4-8 hrs of online pre course reading and quizes. WHS: 2 days online.
  • Job Skills: First aid, CPR and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS)
  • Outcomes
    • QLD School Students: Up to 2 points towards QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education)
    • On successful completion you will be issued a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Course Details

This program will develop:

  • the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including education and care settings.
  • understanding of Health and Safety requirements within an organisation such as WHS policies and procedures, reporting incidents and safety issues.

*All resources have been developed in line with ARC Guidelines. Recommended renewal is every 3 years for first aid or every 12 months for CPR.

 

First Aid Course Delivery

My Industry Training provides training and assessment for this course. My Industry Training is a business branch of Adapt Education (RTO 32452). Students are enrolling with Adapt Education Pty Ltd trading as My Industry Training.

Course delivery consists of two key components:

  • Online Pre learning (4-8 hrs): The theory component of this course is delivered through our online student portal. Students are required to complete the learning material and theory assessment prior to attending the face-to-face session.
  • Face-to-face training and assessment (1 day): Complete the practical components of this course in an interactive session.

Locations:

  • Adapt Education and My Industry Training: 10 Thorne St Wynnum 4178. Contact us for dates
  • Corporate Bookings: schools or workplaces with 10 or more participants may be able to book onsite training at a venue provided by the client. Trainers available in SE QLD and Charters Towers regions. Corporate/School bookings have the option of using a trainer to deliver the entire course with no prior online pre-learning. 

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following Nationally Recognised units of competency.

  • HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

Entry Requirements

  • A driver’s licence, passport or other form of photo-identification.
  • It is an expectation that you will have access to a computer/tablet/phone and the internet. Please discuss with Adapt if this is an issue as strategies can be put in place to assist.
  • It is expected that students have well developed Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills. Students who do not meet the minimum LLN requirements for this course will be provided a range of options and strategies to assist.
  • Participants must have the physical ability to provide resuscitation. This involves kneeling on the floor, performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 (two) minutes. If you are unable to meet this requirement you may be able to attend training as a non-assessed participant.

Recertification

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recommends first aid skills are renewed every three years and resuscitation skills are renewed every 12 months.
