Course Details

In this course you will develop an understanding of learning difficulties, disabilities and school curriculum from Kindy – Yr12. You will learn strategies to manage student behaviour and to develop students’ numeracy and literacy levels. At Adapt, our focus is on developing you into a valuable staff member who can assist the teacher implement teaching strategies for individuals and groups.

  • Training modes for this qualification include: self paced online, self paced correspondence, or classroom delivery.
  • Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include: Teacher Aide, Teacher Assistant, Learning Support Officer, Education assistant (special needs or disability), Language, Literacy or Numeracy worker, Education support worker, Home tutor.
  • All training, assessment and student services for this course are offered by Adapt Education (RTO# 32452). We do not act as a broker and no aspect of your enrolment will be outsourced to another organisation.
Practical Placement
  • For those not currently working in an educational setting, a minimum of 100 hours practical placement (work experience) in an educational setting must be achieved. Additional hours (up to 100) may be required for school based students, students on a Traineeship, Early School Leavers or those that have been assessed as having limited work/life experience so as to allow more time to develop skills in a work setting.
  • Adapt can organise a suitable placement for you or you can arrange your own if you prefer.

Self Paced: In most instances you will have up to 2 years to complete this qualification. Being self-paced study you can enrol at any time and progress at any speed you like without the stress of due dates and rigid class time tables. Study duration depends on the hours you put in and your skill level. As a guide, someone dedicating 8 hours per week to study, could expect to complete the assessment component of the course in 8 – 11 months.

Classroom: structured 20 week program (1 day per week classroom based, 1 day per week self-paced, 1 day per week practical placement). You may finish within the 20 week block but you have the same 2 year time frame to complete should you need it.

Note: students receiving government funding may be obligated to complete the program in a set time frame:

  • Centrelink (education supplement): Full time 40 weeks, part time 69 weeks
  • Traineeship: Full time up to 24 months, part time up to 48 months
  • Certificate 3 Guarantee: self-paced up to 24 months

Payment Plans

  • Payment plans are offered at no additional cost! That’s right, you DO NOT pay more if you opt for a payment plan
  • You nominate the payment periods (i.e. weekly, fortnightly or monthly)
  • You nominate the amount you are comfortable paying (i.e. $50, $100, $200, etc.)


  • It is an expectation that you will have access to a computer and the internet to complete the assessment requirements of the course. Please discuss with Adapt if this is an issue as strategies can be put in place to assist.
  • As you will be helping school children develop their Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills, it is expected that you will have well developed LLN skills. Students who do not meet the minimum LLN requirements for this course will be provided a range of options and strategies to assist.

Working With Children Check

As working with children is a part of this course, it is required that students obtain clearance from the relevant authority prior to commencing their practical placement.

First Aid

Apart from being a crucial life skill, having up-to-date First Aid certification can improve your employability. You have the option of selecting HLTAID003 Provide first aid as an elective unit within this course. Note: selecting this unit is not mandatory. You may book into an Adapt Education first aid course or you can complete it with any provider in Australia. Simply present your certificate to us on completion and we will credit the unit towards your Education Support course.

Some important points to consider if selecting HLTAID003 Provide first aid as an elective:

  • The cost of the first aid unit is not included in Adapt Education’s course fee. You will need to pay the listed course fee to your selected first aid provider.
  • Ensure the you are booking into a first aid course that includes the nationally recognised unit HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
